Talk to a Tech:

Magic's Secrets Revealed

In 1965, The Lovin’ Spoonful sang “Do You Believe in Magic”.  According to them, Magic existed in a young girl’s heart, movies, rock n’ roll, dancing, but no mention of a Home Automated System (HAI).  The fact that they didn’t mention HAI really isn’t too surprising, how do you make that rhyme?!

NetSource One of Saginaw, MI is answering that question in a 7000 of a custom home being built by Moeller Builders of Freeland, MI. Moeller Builders chose NetSource One because of our reputation and our Leviton Certification sealed the deal.

The homeowners expected the HAI to incorporate Door Control systems, have Glass Break Technology, Motion Detection Systems, Surveillance, control the Home Theater System, Audio /Visual, Lighting, Sprinklers, and Blinds. These commands and more are now controlled from multiple Custom Graphical Interfaces including computers/IPads, Wall Panels, and Smart Phones.

Brad Coyer, Senior Project Manager with NetSource One explains, “There will not only be fully Customizable Programs set for this client to suit their needs, but the Energy Savings, Home Safety, and Home Entertainment will be cutting edge. It will be a unique Home Automation System. It’s sort of like Magic”!

A pessimist will say that we don’t need this, it's overkill. An optimist will claim the future is bright. The realist will know,“We have arrived”.

The US home automation market will exceed $5.5 billion in 2016.

Market forecasts (based on a compound annual growth rate of 10.5 percent between 2011 and 2016) indicate strong growth in this segment. Sales trends from 2010 indicate that security systems, home entertainment, and lighting are set to experience greater growth than HVA Cand energy management.

NetSource One has completed several HAI projects since 2013 and more scheduled for the balance of 2015. NetSource One is an industry leader in Managed Services, Network Solutions, Security, Web Design/Host, and so much more. Recognitions include; 2013 Saginaw County mall Business of the Year and 2014 Michigan TechGuru of the Year. NetSource One is also SOC 2 Compliant.

Moeller Builders has become one of the preeminent custom builders in the Tri-City area over the last 21 years. Moeller Builders Inc. to be named in the top three "Best of the Best" for 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2010 by the Saginaw News. The Company has also been named to the National Edition of who's who in Executives and Professionals at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C.

NetSource One and Moeller Builders have been working together for over 5 years on projects. HAI projects are becoming more common and are expected to be a terrific new business channel. Whether the homeowners chose to believe their home is run by magic or truly enjoy the technology and craftsmanship, their home will be spectacular.

Locky Email Virus Spreading Like Wildfire

Stop Threats Before They Hit the Network

As some of you may know there is a devastating email virus spreading like wildfire. The Malware is called “Locky”. It is disguising itself as an email attachment and has been using various file types (Word Doc, Excel, ZIP, PDF and etc.). Once you open the attachment Locky Malware can encrypt 164 different file types. Locky encrypts files on all fixed drives, removable drives and also on RAM disk drives. The hackers are after your money, they are trying to get users to pay them to remove the virus, do not follow payment instructions or give your personal information!!!

How to reduce risk of being infected:

  • Use an advanced email firewall service such as Barracuda
  • As always, don’t open suspicious attachments (e.g. .doc, .xls, and .zip files)
  • Keep recent backup copies of important data in a secure place either online or offline
  • Ensure that your system and applications are fully updated and patched
  • Disable Microsoft Office macros by default and never enable macros in strange/unknown attachments that you receive via email

We have been seeing a large increase of the message types on our Barracuda Anti-Spam filter over the last 72 hours. Our Barracuda Anti-Spam filter is currently catching the emails and attachments for all of our Anti-Spam customers, but everyone is still at risk until the threat is fully detectable. For those who are unaware the Barracuda Email Security Gateway is integrated with a cloud-based service that pre-filters email before delivery to the onsite Barracuda Email Security Gateway. The Cloud Protection Layer is continuously updated with definitions in real time from Barracuda Central. In addition, Barracuda’s global cloud infrastructure provides the flexibility to handle email surges during specific periods of the day and during Denial of Service attacks. For our clients who do not use Barracuda or other spam firewall please contact us with any questions or concerns.
